Cement Industry Poised for Green Revolution as Adani Group Makes Bold COP28 Pledge.

Amidst the ongoing COP28 Summit hosted by the United Nations, Gautam Adani, the Chairman of Adani Group, has made a resounding declaration to overhaul the cement industry by embracing sustainable methodologies.

In a recent announcement via the social media platform X (previously known as Twitter), Adani highlighted the pioneering efforts of group entities Ambuja Cements and ACC in adopting sustainable practices within the cement sector. Notably, he underscored that more than 90 percent of their current production involves the recycling of fly ash and slag, marking a significant stride towards sustainability while positively impacting the environmental footprint of their cement products.

Adani articulated a forward-looking vision, expressing the group’s commitment to propel 60 percent of their cement manufacturing using renewable energy sources by the year 2028. This ambitious target aims to position Adani Group as a global frontrunner in the realm of sustainable cement production, showcasing their dedication to eco-friendly practices.

Beyond the sphere of cement, in a separate communication on December 6, Adani emphasized the group’s electricity division’s unwavering focus on sustainability. He pointed out that “Adani Electricity distinguishes itself through its environmentally conscious initiatives.”

Adani shared their plan to ambitiously supply 60 percent of Mumbai’s electricity from renewable sources by 2027, envisioning a milestone that would set a global benchmark for a metropolitan area. Highlighting the progress made so far, he disclosed that presently, over 38 percent of their electricity supply is sourced from green energy. Moreover, he proudly declared their achievement during Diwali, wherein Mumbai was powered entirely by 100 percent renewable energy, underscoring their firm commitment to a sustainable future.
