NEWS: Buhari writes Senate, requests confirmation of new SEC DG, others

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday received President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for confirmation of Alhaji Lamido Yuguda as the new Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) alongside three other nominees.
The three other nominees are to serve as full-time commissioners of the commission.
The letter reads: “Pursuant to Section 3 and 5(1) of the Investment and Securities Act 2007, I write to request for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of the following four nominees as Director General and Commissioners of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Their CVs are attached herewith.
The names for confirmation are: Mr. Lamido A. Yuguda, Director General; Reginald C. karausa, full-time Commissioner; Ibrahim D. Boyi, full-time Commissioner; and Mr. Obi Joseph, full-time Commissioner.
As you all know, the Senate is the upper chamber of Nigeria’s bicameral legislature, the National Assembly of Nigeria. The National Assembly is the nation’s highest legislature, whose power is to make laws, is summarized in chapter one, section four of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution.
