The Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme(Fully-funded and open to all Africans)

The African Union Commission, in collaboration with the Kofi Annan Foundation, launched the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) – Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme on May 25, 2020. This groundbreaking initiative aims to empower senior public health professionals from African Union Member States with advanced skills and competencies to strategically manage and lead transformative public health programs across the continent.

Program Overview

The program, approved by the Governing Board of Africa CDC in March 2018, targets aspirational leaders committed to implementing a new public health order for Africa. These leaders will play a crucial role in mentoring the next generation of public health professionals. The remarkable progress of the program is evident in the graduation of 39 Fellows from over 20 AU Member States, with 20 more currently in training.

Cohort 4 Application

The application for the 4th Cohort of the Fellowship program is now open, with a submission deadline of January 30, 2024. Africa CDC encourages diversity in applications from across AU Member States. Cohort 4 introduces a Mental Health track, inviting Public Mental Health Professionals to apply. Women in senior positions within Government Ministries and National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs) are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Fellowship Details

The Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme is a one-year program that includes:

  • Up to eight weeks of institutional residential placements
  • Continued learning through online sessions and individual projects
  • Mentorship and coaching support

Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be citizens of an African Union Member State
  • Possess a postgraduate degree in a relevant field in public health
  • Have 10 years of professional experience in any field of public health
  • Be in full-time employment in any area of public health in Africa

Fellowship Selection

Selection to the Fellowship will be done by an independent committee comprising experts from the African Union Commission and Africa CDC, emphasizing equal opportunity.

Financing

Africa CDC will provide all learning and development materials and meet all costs associated with the fellowship, including travel, daily allowance, and insurance during the residential placements.
